Training Feedback

"I have been a part of the group now for almost 3 years. I can honestly say that my experience with the group has been nothing but positive. This group differs from the traditional and commercialized martial art schools; here you won.t find any inflated egos, no selling or exaggerated notions of the Ving Tsun system. Instead what you.ll find is a close knit of people, researching and helping each other grow in the Wong Shun Leung system of Ving Tsun. It is refreshing to have George Lee as a coach, whom isn.t just there to impart his knowledge of Ving Tsun; but whom is there to learn alongside you, continue researching and improving our collective understanding of the system.

My own comprehension of the WSL Ving Tsun way has deepened greatly with our consistent practice, as well as from meeting and learning from Ernie Barrios and other ABMVT members. I.m constantly amazed by the depth of the WSLVT system. There is a common saying in traditional Chinese martial arts that after three years of dedicated practice, one achieves a small success. While I can.t say that I.ve been successful with my own practice, I can definitely see some improvement and know how much more effort I need to put in. I.ve always believed that learning a system of martial arts is a life long process; that we never stop being students. Whereas some people may go through a set curriculum and become so called, .Sifu. and .Master., I believe such titles are meaningless and deviate from the goal of the never ending process of learning and improving. This is exactly what I see in Ernie, George and our group. I.m proud to be a part of the group; to have such great friends and mentors. I highly recommend this group to anyone who is interested in learning Ving Tsun."

Feedback by visitor from Georgia for his weekend 12 hour training session.

Hello George,

Just wanted to drop a line to thank you and your crew, and to say I'm putting everything you showed me into use with my training partners. I know the 3 days of training flew by for me. I can't wait to come see you and your guys again in 2 months. I felt i had a pretty good understanding of the system, until I trained with you. The fundamentals are so well pronounced in your method. I really enjoyed the testing in the drills. I think the way you had our training set up was really beneficial. It helped to have that structure, and be able to go back and review at the end, and beginning of each training session. And to truly see why "this is done like this", instead of instructors saying "do it like this, b/c it's the way I was taught". I felt like the way you you and your crew interact and bring ideas to the table and test them is a great way to work through ideas. It truly felt like Wing Chun/Ving Tsun evolved, without giving up it's fundemental principles of fighting. Thanks again, can't wait to see you all again, and also thanks for making me feel at home!

Slainte,
Lucas Todd DiMatteo

I have been training Wing Chun kung fu with George Lee for almost a year. I started without any prior knowledge of Wing Chun, and I feel that I have come a long way since then. Training with George Lee has provided me with conceptual knowledge of Wing Chun and physical experience of training the forms and drills. George Lee's detailed knowledge on the subject is a resource he uses to explain every aspect of training. This is a process that takes time and repetition, and it results in a thorough understanding of every action and it's execution. Every detail about an action is explored both by the concept behind the action and executing the action itself. Since George Lee explains everything until there are no more questions left, it feels as if there is nothing hidden and that there is an emphasis on perfection. I would compare studying Wing Chun with George Lee to putting together a very complicated puzzle. As we continue training and I "put the pieces together," I build on what I've done before and get a sense of a broader picture that is attainable through more hard work. I would highly reccommend George Lee as a Wing Chun instructor to anyone who seeks to truly understand the martial art.
